HIGH HOPES FOR ANOTHER PH “BANNER YEAR” IN MATH COMPETITIONS
By Jerry E. Esplanada More than 500 young numbers aces from various public and private schools nationwide will represent the country this year in at least 16 international mathematics contests. Some of the math wizards are competing in this month's Junior Balkan Math Olympiad and the 3D Pan Pacific Math Competition in Greece and Hong Kong, respectively, according to Dr. Simon Chua, co-founder and chief executive officer of the Mathematics Trainers' Guild Phils.(MTG). The non-government MTG, established in 1995 to promote excellence in math education and training, is helping Filipino "mathletes" - mostly senior elementary and high school students - gear up for the contests with its intensive in-house training program. Extension for 3d Cup Pan-Asia Pacific Int’l Contest
The Philippine Brain Power Society (PBPS) is inviting our mathlete to join the Olympic Mathematics 3D Cup Pan-Asia Pacific International Invitation Competition 2018 which will be held in Hong Kong, China on June 29 to July 3, 2018. This competition is for only for grades 1 to 9. This competition will cater the non – qualifiers and non-challengers of the recently concluded 2018 YMIITP. It is a rare opportunity for these kids to showcase their math prowess to be the official delegates and representing our country in this prestigious competition. Registration is extended until (June 8, 2018)
Announcement: PBPS will NOT join the heat round of HKIMO
Please be informed that the Philippine Brain Power Society (PBPS) will not join the Heat Round of the Hong Kong International Mathematics Olympiad (HKIMO), but rather the HKIMO has given the PBPS authority to select participants to join the HKIMO on September 1, 2018. As regards, PBPS will leave it to the participant's discretion to join or not the heat round of the HKIMO since joining it will never be a basis of selection to join the HKIMO in September.
Thailand Mathematics Society Announces TIMO Heat Round Awardees
It has been almost a month from this date that participants from different school in the Philippines compete in the Thailand International Mathematics Olympiad (TIMO) Heat Round. The said mathematics correspondence competition was held in the participants’ respective schools last December 2017. The Thailand Mathematics Society through the effort of the Philippine Brain Power Society (PBPS) announces the winners of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, and Merit award. We are looking forward for the medal awardees of the Heat Round to bring honor and glory to our country in the forthcoming International Round of TIMO on February 21-24, 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. PBPS to hold TIMO in the Philippines
That’s right, the Philippine Brain Power Society (PBPS) brings to all math wizards in the country the challenging and interesting math correspondence competition, the Thailand International Mathematics Olympiad (TIMO). The good news is it is open to all students of all grade levels from the kindergarten group and primary level (grades 1 to 6) to secondary group (grades 7 to 10) and senior high level (grades 11 and 12). Filipino students bring home medals at Macau math contest
The twenty three students from the Philippines took home silver and bronze medals for their high scores at the Olympics Mathematics 3D Cup Pan-Asia Pacific International Invitation Competition (3D Cup PAP) 2017 held in Macau last July 8, 2017. The 3D Cup PAP brings together the top math students from key regions in China including Hong Kong and adjacent countries to compete this year. Bringing home silver medals were Cassey Jules Uygongco from Hua Hsiong College – Iloilo City and Hance Louie Uy from Philippine Cultural College.
